The joinery

Joinery tuition is a part of the technological teaching at Riaumont. À teacher is living here full time, which makes it possible for the boys to improve at their own rate. The program makes it possible to the children to be ready to face the official tests of the BEP level in two or three years depending on their capacities.
In parallel with the courses in the workshop, of which you see some photographs here, the boys also have courses of general tuition with their friends of the more traditionalsections (see on this subject the general page on the Saint John Bosco school) .
The technical training can start from the age of 12 with little work on machines. The aim is to give them the taste of the well done work, and to familiarize the children with the various manual tools which they will have to use (saws, hammers, chisels, etc.), as well as to give them the general bases necessary to scale drawing, followed byits confection.
During the following years, work on machines is of course a part of the program, from the band saw to the spinning top, up to the slotting machines, etc. The achievements are much more concrete there, for example, opposite, a peace of a guardrail from the staircase of the monastery carried out partly by the pupils of the last year.
